Liberia Urban Water Supply Project

The objective of the Urban Water Supply Project for Liberia is to increase access to piped water supply services in the project area in Monrovia and improve the operational efficiency of LWSC. There are two components to the project, the first component being infrastructure improvements. The project will invest approximately US$8 million in infrastructure improvements, of which about US$1.9 million will finance targeted repairs and rehabilitations of the existing distribution network under subcomponent 1A and US$6.1 million for the extension of the distribution network to new areas and customers under subcomponent 1B. Estimated costs for subcomponents 1A and 1B include allowances for site mobilization, maintenance, and contingencies. The second component is the capacity building. This component has been focused on tasks that are a direct and integral part of the project implementation process (for example, PIU support and public consultations) or are critically reliant on capital goods purchases (for example, operational equipment, device-assisted meter reading, new customer care centers), which cannot be financed by the complementary technical assistance program due to budget constraints or regulations.
