West Africa Ebola Emergency Response 2014
On the 8th August 2014 the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced the Ebola outbreak in West Africa (affecting Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Nigeria). The outbreak is the largest the world has ever seen and WHO estimates up to 20,000 cases over the next six to nine months without intensified control measures. Following the announcement the WHO formally requested Australian support to assist with the WHO consolidated appeal to respond to the outbreak. Through the WHO Ebola response roadmap which identifies immediate needs and priorities, funding under this investment contributes to Australia's response to the Ebola outbreak and will provide support for human resources and medical expertise, logistics, supplies and equipment and food and water for those in affected regions. The total value of this investment is $12.0 million expensed in the 2014-15 financial year.
