Liberia Returnees - Plan International Canada Appeal 2008
Liberia continues to experience the devastating consequences of 14 years of civil strife. Many Liberians remain highly vulnerable as a result of the crippled basic services sector - a situation which is compounded by the recent return of hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the conflict. Pressing needs remain in the primary and maternal health care and water and sanitation sectors, particularly in counties with high rates of return. CIDA's contribution is used to support the basic survival needs of returnees and the host community, particularly pregnant women, newborn infants and children under-five in three districts of Lofa County, one of the counties with the highest rates of return. It facilitates the provision of basic services, including primary and maternal health care, and water and sanitation facilities.
