UNDP/OHCHR RoL Joint Programme
The UNDP/UNMIL Joint Rule of Law Programme aims at ensuring a more joined-up approach to rule of law, UNDP and UNMIL intend to develop a joint rule of law, justice and security (ROLJS) programme aimed at successfully implementing UNMIL's mandated tasks and facilitating a seamless transition to more appropriate forms of assistance in the longer term by the UNCT.
Expected outcomes as stated in the Programme document and supported by the intervention logic: (1) Capacity of justice and security institutions strengthened and linkages forged; (2) Civil society contribution to rule of law and community access to justice enhanced; (3) Gender responsiveness of justice, security and legislative actors strengthened and women and girls’ access to justice and security improved; and (4) Capacity of key actors and stakeholders to monitor progress and results in rule of law development increased. These four overarching outcomes have been identified as the key pillars for improving the Rule of Law in Liberia. Together they form a strategy which aims to improve the framework for; cooperation between and; capacities of institutional and civil society actors in order to enable the rule of law system to become more equitable and accountable to the rights and needs of the population. The outcomes are based on priorities as identified by the Liberian government in their transition plan and other national development policy documents and assessed by the Embassy to be achievable and highly relevant.
