Advancing Youth Project
(Liberia): The USAID Advancing Youth Project is providing increased access to quality Alternative Basic Education (ABE) services, social and leadership development, and livelihoods for Liberian youth and young adults, aged 13-35 who are unschooled or out of school, and who have no or marginal literacy and numeracy skills. Over 16,000 Liberians will receive literacy, numeracy and life skills training between 2011 and 2016.FY 2015 basic education funding will be used to support ongoing capacity development of the Ministry of Education to: develop strong and sustainable Alternative Basic Education systems; engage a wide range of partners and stakeholders to develop credit bearing courses and self-study modules in support of ABE teacher professional development; provide leadership training opportunities; enhance the capacity of local organizations to conduct their own local market analysis; expand access to Village Savings and Loans; and assess the impact of access to finance.
