Liberia Elections and Political Transitions (LEPT)
(Liberia): The objectives of the Liberia Elections and Political Transitions (LEPT) program are to help ensure: (1) The National Elections Commission (NEC) demonstrates capacity to perform essential functions related to election administration; (2) NEC develops, maintains, and pro-actively manages, key relationships; and (3) Civil Society Organizations deliver countrywide civic and voter education (CVE) around critical issues. FY 2017 funds will be used to achieve specific results including helping to ensure that: (1) Liberian election officials are trained on technical elections issues; (2) electoral stakeholders, including political party representatives and civil society actors, are trained on elections regulations and processes, and (3) citizens throughout the country are reached via CVE outreach activities. USAID assistance will also support post-election reform efforts (including a possible constitutional referendum) and utilize lessons learned of the NEC to further their capacity.
Objectives for Liberia: This program works to strengthen local capacity to effectively manage, observe, and engage in election processes by providing technical assistance to Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC) and civil society organizations (CSOs). Specific objectives include the following: Increase the capacity of the NEC to manage the full election cycle; Promote meaningful CSOs engagement in election processes
