Improving Agricultural Productivity in Africa (P1)
The Improving Agricultural Productivity in Africa Portfolio 1 program supports food security activities in Africa focused on three pillars: agricultural productivity; market development; and social protection. This program directly address availability related food security challenges (and may indirectly address food access issues). The activities have a strong regional component and broad geographic spread. All the activities under this initiative have shared objectives and a focus on research and technology and innovation transfer. The activities are delivered through a number of partners including: the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO); Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA); and the Australian Centre for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR). The total value of this multi-country investment was initially $39.2 million over 5 years starting 2009-10 but it now been extended until December 2019 and is now valued at $42.9 million.
