Uganda Mine Clearance 2010-12

Funding under this initiative assists the Government of Uganda (GoU) to fulfil its mine clearance obligations under the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, specifically to undertake manual and mechanical demining, marking, fencing, surveys, explosive destruction, institutional capacity building and mine risk reduction activities. Australian funding will: develop technical and management capacity of the Uganda Mine Action Centre through the provision of technical advisory, information management systems and logistics support; deploy 120 staff to clear mines and carry out all logistics provisions; quality assure the conduct of demining and operations management teams and assist in timely land release; assist the GoU to provide accurate progress reports. The total value of this assistance is $1.9 million to be expensed during the 2010-11 financial year.
