Disability Rights Advocacy Fund 2017-20 (DRAF)

Disability-inclusive development is a key development priority for the Australian Government. The Investment Design “ Advancing Inclusive Development and Human Rights for All Persons with Disabilities”, prepared by the Disability Rights Advocacy Fund (DRAF) provides a comprehensive approach to supporting the rights of people with disabilities through support to disabled people’s organisations, and builds upon the previous investment design. This new Investment aims to support the capacity, advocacy efforts and leadership of people with disabilities and disabled people’s organisations in partner countries, as well as the activities of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to continue implementing her mandate to advance the full implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at national and international levels. The new Investment approach supports the key principles of Australia’s disability strategy, Development for All 2015-2020, to “support an active and central role for people with disabilities: Nothing about us without us” as well as noting the interaction between gender and disability and “improving inclusion of a diverse range of people with disabilities”. The total value of this investment is $6.01 million over 4 financial years, starting 2016-17.
