Evergreen Agriculture East Africa

Smallholder farmers in countries of eastern Africa are resource-poor and find it difficult to afford expensive inputs to enhance agricultural productivity. In recent years governments and NGOs working in this region have begun to promote the enhancement of tree cover on agricultural land as a cheap but effective way of improving soils and lifting agricultural productivity. The aim of this project is to enhance food security for rural people in eastern Africa by focusing on the introduction of trees within farming systems in Ethiopia and Rwanda. The project will then scale out successes to relevant agro-ecological zones in Uganda and Burundi.
