The project "Shea Nut Access and Value-addition Enhancement (SAVE)" is about economic empowerment and conservation of the environment. The overall objective of the action is to contribute to the development of green jobs for women and youth along the Shea nut Value Chain (SNVC) and in Apiary in northern Uganda to improve their standard of living. The action will be implemented around two specific objectives; Specific Objective 1: Increased community based green Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) and natural resource management along the SNVC. Specific Objective 2: Strengthened local authorities’ involvement towards enhanced community transition to an inclusive sustainable consumption and production pattern along the SNVC.

Expected results by year 2021: Specific Objective 1 (SO1) Increased community based green Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) and natural resource management along the Shea nut Value Chain (SNVC). SO1 Result 1.1: Increased green MSE along the SNVC SO1 Result 1.2: Increased production and conservation practices along the SNVC. Specific Objective 2 (SO2) Strengthened local authorities’ involvement towards enhanced community transition to an inclusive sustainable consumption and production pattern along the SNVC. SO2 Result 2.1: Improved capacity of local authorities and green entrepreneurs along the SNVC. SO2 Result 2.2: Reduced barriers in policy governance and access to finance for inclusive green shea nut businesses and apiary farming. Target groups in project Women and youth in micro- and small enterprises (MSEs) with a maximum of 25 members per MSE will work together in apiary and green shea nut businesses. The members, mainly women and youth, will get training with the purpose of developing their businesses. The groups will be provided with start-up-capital to develop and market their products. The MSEs will be the promoters of shea tree planting and protection among the community. The MSEs will echo the message from local authorities to encourage the communities to plant and protect shea trees. The MSEs will also facilitate the mplementation of the bylaws that districts will have established to protect the environment in general and shea trees in particular. At least 500 women and youth are expected to be members in the green MSEs. Eight Eco Entrepreneurs Associations (EEAs) will be formed by the local communities, consisting of five MSEs each. Workshops and exhibitions will be held to promote linkages between the EEAs and markets, training institutions and different CSOs. The barriers of planning and conserving the shea nut will be addressed by the EEAs. These EEAswill be highlyinvolved in thecommunitymonitoring of sheanuttree protection in particular, and the environment in general. Besides, the EEAs will liaise with local authorities to ensure effective implementation and enforcement by both community, local leaders, Local Environment Committees and Charcoal producers associations. Local Authorities - Four local authorities will be strengthened in the implementation of shea nut policies and land tenure services. The role of the local authorities will be to create and reinforce by-laws around the protection of shea trees. They will liaise with cultural leaders. Church of Sweden together with  Lutheran World Federation (LWF) will be responsible for the contribution.
