Stimulating incomes through Organic Trade Support - Stimulating incomes thru Support to Organic Trade

The National Organic Agriculture Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU) has applied to Sida for funding amounting to 13 million SEK to carry out the project " Stimulating Incomes through Strengthening Organic Trade in Uganda (SISOTU)" in the North, West Nile, Western and Central districts of Uganda during the period 2014-2017. The overall project objective of the intervention is to reduce poverty through increased organic production, processing and trade competitiveness in Uganda. The project is expected to result into over 30,000 smallholder farmers mobilized and linked to markets; 40% of whom being women and youth, with 10 new value added products from the project area placed on the market, and resulting into a farmer income increment of 50% over the project period. The project intervention is part of NOGAMU’s strategy, with a total budget is 16.5 million SEK, out of which other donors like Trademark East Africa and the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) are expected to contribute approximately 3.5 million SEK, while Sweden will contribute 13 million SEK.

The overall objective is to reduce poverty of the smallholder farmers through increased organic production, processing and trade competitiveness within their SME companies which will facilitate access to quality export and regional organic markets.
