International Alert B4P Programme 2016 - 2019 - Forensic audit
International Alert is an NGO based in London with field office in Uganda that works to preventing armed conflict and strengthening human security in over 25 countries and territories and influencing decisions and policy orientation at regional and international level. International Alert sees as its mission to work together with people in conflict-affected or risk areas to influence developments towards peace, that on a regional and international levels to improve policies and policy compliance are important for creating peace, and to strengthen other actors in peace building.
International Alert in Uganda has been developing innovative private sector approaches to peace building in Uganda with support from the Swedish Embassy since 2005. Alert began this “Business for Peace” (B4P) programme by developing guidelines for conflict-sensitive development sector interventions and researching whether and how the Ugandan business community could be mobilised for peace.
The main objectives of this new phase of the B4P project is to;
- Strengthen the level and nature of interactions between business associations, civil society organisations and government institutions in creation of a peaceful business environment.
- Improve knowledge and understanding of civil society organisations on the connection between conflict-sensitive business practices and peace in Uganda.
- Enhance the capacity of business associations in identification, mediation and resolution of business-related conflicts
- Promote and monitor use of gender and conflict-sensitive business practices, policies and regulations among business associations, government institutions and civil society
To achieve the above objectives, International Alert will work with the private sector including business associations, civil society organisations and government institutions.
The project will be implemented in 3 years (2016-2018) with a total budget of SEK 18 000 000. The Embassy assess this project to contribute to the achievement of the results strategy most specifically as one that addresses conflict issues directly. The Embassy therefore proposes that Sweden enters into agreement to support International Alert Uganda for a period of 3 years 2016-2018, with a total amount of 18 000 000 SEK
