Agribusiness initiative (ABi Trust)

(Uganda): USAID Uganda is contributing to Uganda's agriculture/agribusiness sector by improving the performance and competitiveness of the bean, coffee and maize value-chains through a co-operation agreement with the Royal Danish Embassy. These are the three focus-commodity value chains of the Uganda Mission's Feed the Future program. Activities are addressing the principal weaknesses in the three value chains by improving inputs supply and quality, production, internal and external marketing, storage, post-harvest handling and processing and financial services, to make the commodity value chains more competitive and better able to meet local, regional and international market standards. Results expected over this project's life are improved income and food security of up to 400,000 smallholder farming households, increased volume of traded agricultural produce, improved quality of coffee, maize and beans, the provision of new farming/agribusiness loans to some 35,000 clients, and enabling access by an expected 20,000 smallholder farmers to savings' facilities.
