School Health and Reading Program (SHRP)
(Uganda): SHRP will continue to build government and other stakeholder.capacity to support classroom and community behavior change to improve early.grade reading (EGR) and HIV knowledge, attitudes, and practices. SHRP works through.established Government of Uganda (GOU) systems to improve capacity to.effectively teach reading in early grades through professional development and.support activities for college tutors, teachers, and head teachers. SHRP will.directly reach an estimated 2.3 million pupils in 3,702 schools and provide.technical support to the GOU to scale up the EGR intervention to an.additional 1.2 million children.in 2,644 primary schools..In combination with a third USAID-funded activity, more than 90% of Uganda's.pupils will be benefit from the EGR program. SHRP's basic education.components are complemented by PEPFAR-funded activities that provide HIV and.health education programming to 34,000 upper primary and secondary school.pupils. .....
