Alur Highlands Coffee Alliance
(Uganda): .The Alur Highlands Coffee Alliance activity is a public-private partnership between USAID and Ecom Agroindustrial Corporation Ltd, a global commodity-trading firm that specializes in coffee and other agricultural products. The alliance, which is implemented by the CARANA Corporation, is a three-year activity valued at $7.5 million. Ecom will contribute nearly $3.5 million in investment through its local subsidiary, Kawacom, and USAID will leverage this involvement with an additional $3.9 million in funds. This catalytic partnership should increase the saleable yields and quality of high-value Arabica coffee produced by previously unreachable farmers in the West Nile region by: providing them training on good agricultural practices and access to finance, constructing post-harvest processing facilities, applying geo-traceablity to their farms and certifying their coffee as sustainably produced, and providing a link to the global specialty-coffee market...
