Emergency Assistance to Communities Affected by the 2008 Drought in Karamoja, North-Eastern Uganda

This EMOP aimed to stabilize and reduce acute malnutrition among drought affected populations in Karamoja in line with Strategic Objective 1, through general food distributions (GFD) and therapeutic feeding. Originally, the operation was supposed to continue until the harvest of October 2009, but was extended to 31 December due to the harvest failure, caused by prolonged drought. Then, the project end date of a significantly scaled down EMOP was again extended further, to 31 December 2010. In 2010, the EMOP targeted only extremely vulnerable and food-insecure households, identified during a joint integrated food security and nutrition assessment undertaken at the end of 2009.
