Education Quality & Access in Liberia (EQUAL)
(Liberia): The Education Quality and Access in Liberia (EQUAL) project aims to improve learning outcomes in early grade literacy and numeracy in English and Bassa (the local language in the target area) in 100 targeted schools. The program will pilot mother-tongue literacy in three grades to generate key resources and evidence for Ministry of Education planning. FY~2015 funding will be used to support the following: developing and distributing relevant teaching and learning materials to reinforce early grade reading teacher training and to provide students with access to reading materials; building the capacity of teachers to effectively apply literacy and numeracy teaching skills for the implementation of the two interventions (Bassa literacy and math intervention and assessment); and training Parent Teacher Associations to collaborate with and monitor school management and school activities - including identifying protection needs of children, and planning and implementing development initiatives.
Objectives for Liberia: Planned Outcomes ; District, County, and National structures promote enrollment and improve children’s learning outcomes. ; Establish safe and child friendly school environments in target schools. ; Improve learning outcomes in early grade literacy and numeracy in targeted schools.
