Global Agriculture and Food Security Program

The Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) is a multi-donor trust fund established by the World Bank to scale-up agricultural assistance to low-income countries. The focus of GAFSP is to improve the income and food security of poor people in developing countries through more and better country-led public and private sector investment by raising agricultural productivity; linking farmers to markets; reducing risk and vulnerability; improving non-farm rural livelihoods; and supporting technical assistance, institution building and capacity building. GAFSP will provide grants to developing countries and regional organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to a comprehensive approach for increasing agricultural growth and lasting improvements in food security. It will also include a private sector financing window providing loans and equity investments to stimulate private sector investment in agriculture and food security. The total value of this initiative is $100.0 million over 4 years, starting 2009-10.
